Abused rescue dog in need of your help
SylvaniaVET Animal Clinic is dealing with a case of animal neglect so severe, that staff can’t even remember the last time they’ve seen a living animal in such bad shape. On Tuesday evening a couple dropped off a severely neglected Husky/Shepard mix named Lola and her 7 puppies. According to the couple, they found the dog in an alley.
The 34lb Lola was severely dehydrated, underweight and her skin on her backside was being eaten by maggots. Despite being in such bad shape herself, Lola nursed her week old pups with what little nutrition she had left. Her primary care given, Dr. Kate Hissam didn’t know whether Lola would make it thru the night. “I was afraid for her when i first saw her and i was begging to allow us to do something for her,” Hissam. Once she did, the staff decided to continue caring for Lola instead of putting her. “She did a good job with her babies so she deserved a shot at being well also.”
Giving her a new start won’t be cheap. The clinic has discounted their services but expect the cost to range upwards of $2,000. The staff is hoping people will donate to their Memories Live On Animal Foundation, a non-profit fund which helps animals in extreme situations.
“It’s always difficult to make a decision whose in the most need but clearly in this situation the owner was unable to take care of her,” Dr. Jennifer Tate. Recovery for Lola will be slow and may require skin graphs and surgery down the road. Getting her back to normal could take up to several months. But the hope is once she’s healthy; they can find her a good home. “Donations to help are good and of course we’re always looking for good homes,” Dr. Tate.
Vets say the most frustrating part is that animal abuse and neglect to this extent, doesn’t have to happen. This is why they recommend spaying and neutering pets as puppies.
SylvaniaVET is looking for homes for the puppies but they won’t be ready to adopt for another 6 weeks or so. In the meantime, if you’d like to donate you can send a check or money order to:
Memories Live on Foundation c/o SylvaniaVET 4801 N. Holland-Sylvania Rd. Sylvania, OH 43560.
All donations are tax deductable. If you’d like to follow Lola’s journey you can check her progress on her Facebook Page.
