More than 100 ACU athletes earn academic honors
More than 100 Abilene Christian University student-athletes were named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Of the 1,027 student-athletes who made the honor roll for the 2010-11 school year, 122 of them had perfect 4.0 grade point averages — and ACU led the list with 20.
“It’s always good to see them be able to excel, not only in what they are doing in competition, but to also be able to do that in the classroom,” ACU director of athletics Jared Mosley said. “Those students who were able to do that at the 4.0 level, it’s an amazing accomplishment. The ones who do that, they’re extremely disciplined to be able to balance everything they’ve got thrown at them. We’re extremely proud of what they’ve been able to do.”
Incarnate Word had the most honor roll selections with 123, followed by ACU (108) and West Texas A&M (83). Student-athletes needed a minimum 3.30 GPA during the school year to be selected.
ACU’s women’s soccer program had the most 4.0 GPAs with five (Brie Buschman, Jacey Ferrara, Anastasia Nelson, Alyse Ritchie, Courtney Wilson). Volleyball (Allie Roston, Caley Johnson, Shawna Hines), football (Samuel Ewalefo, Christopher Rhoten, Emery Dudensing) and men’s track and field (Gary Duncan, Brandon Fleet, Matt Stark) followed with three each. Women’s basketball (Hillari Adam), men’s basketball (Trevor Wait), softball (Kara Stutesman), women’s track and field (Kelti Rippenhagen), men’s golf (Adam Carpenter) and women’s tennis (Michah Hermsdorf) had one each. — From ARN sports reporter Joey Richards.
