Ohio schools superintendent finalist drops out
— Governor John Kasich’s education adviser has taken himself off the list of candidates to become Ohio’s next schools superintendent. Robert Sommers was one of the State Board of Education’s three finalists to replace Deborah Delisle, who resigned this spring. Somers determined that his ability to perform as superintendent would be limited because state ethics laws would bar him from having any contact with the governor’s office for a year.
The remaining finalists are Reynoldsburg superintendent Stephen Dackin and Robert Schiller, a former state superintendent in Michigan and Illinois. The board is expected to interview the finalists and make a decision next month.
