Amid a proliferation of specialized master’s degree programs emerging in the field of management education, the University of Michigan ’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business last month announced that it will add its own to the mix: a unique master’s degree program in entrepreneurship offered jointly between Ross and the UM College of Engineering.
Applications are being accepted now for the first cohort in this new program, which will being in fall 2012. U-M embraced this new specialized field of study because it is one not available through conventional business or engineering programs. Most business schools focus on the skill set required in larger, more mature organizations, and most engineering programs dont include market assessment and commercialization skills, the school asserts.

Famu Trustees Hazing
FAMU trustees have sharply criticized President James Ammons for his handling of the death of student Robert Champion, who was apparently injured in a hazing ritual in Orlando last month.
They decided to publicly reprimand him yesterday after a heated debate about whether they should put him on leave while law enforcement investigates Champions death.
Several trustees said they were unhappy that the president has not kept them informed or consulted them in some decisions, including Ammons decision to form a task force to look into hazing issues at the historically black college in Tallahassee.

Three people were killed and another person was critically injured in a Thursday morning apartment fire.
According to the Kanabec County Sheriff’s Department, the fire happened at a four-plex at about 7 a.m.
Three people were safely evacuated from the home, but crews later discovered two adults and one juvenile victim dead on the scene.
Another adult has been airlifted to the Twin Cities for hospitalization. That person was reported to be in critical condition.
Everything was fine, then it wasnt fine, said Gary Norling. I just dont know what to say.
When Norling left this apartment in the morning, he said his wife told him she was ready to leave shortly after.
I didnt think she was home. She went to work, you know, and then as I walked around there, then her car was there. Then I knew something was bad then, cause, you know, she didnt go to work, said Norling.
The Sheriffs Department told Norling his wife, 68-year-old Shirley Norling, died in the fire. <

Board Board Seat
Filing will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the Oklahoma County Election Board offices, 4201 N Lincoln Blvd.
The election is scheduled for Feb. 14, with a runoff scheduled for April 3, if necessary.
The school board consists of five seats; the term for Seat No. 2, currently occupied by Kathleen Duncan, is set to expire.
Duncan plans to seek re-election, school district officials said in a news release.
The Seat No. 2 district includes many neighborhoods on the western side of the school district.
