CBD Journal with URI’s Mike Le Bel (January 4th)

Hi Everyone,

First off, Happy Holidays to everyone.  These past couple weeks have been a great time simply relaxing with family and friends. I hope everyone got to enjoy it as much as I did.

That being said, putting the holidays behind us simply means that we’re one step closer to the start of the 2012 college baseball season.  February 17th is right around the corner and I know that my teammates are all itching to get back to Rhody to continue preparing for the season.

I also want to say how proud I am of my teammates for their hard work – both on and off the field – during the fall semester.  We certainly faced adversity and are inspired to work harder than ever in honor of our fallen teammate, Joey Ciancola.

We recently selected our four captains: Anthony Pisani, Chris Pickering, Dan Haverstick and myself.  I couldnt be more excited to lead this ball club along with these three guys – true competitors and leaders.

The 2012 Rhody baseball schedule is officially online . Coach Foster

The Stories of a D1, D2 and D3 Athlete that can Help YOU in Recruiting

As 2012 gains steam, I wanted to thank you for all the nice emails about the stories written in Charlie’s Corner and here on the NCSA blog. As a former broadcast journalist who observed the recruiting process for many years, I share stories of athletes’ recruiting experience here, so that you can learn from what they went through in their process.

NCSA Recruiting Expert Charlie Adams educating families

Also, as the parent of a current NCAA student-athlete who found the right fit, my goal is to help educate families on how to find the right fit for their daughter or son.  Many of my stories here focus on interviews with athletes who nailed that crucial part of recruiting.

One of the things I will always do is update certain stories, so that you can continue to learn not only what it takes to be successfully recruited, but what the experience is like for athletes at all levels of college sports.

Here are three stories that I worked on over the Holiday’s. These

Former Oklahoma Baptist University professor arrested in Pennsylvania in connection to McLoud child porn case

Gary Joseph Doby, 65, has been identified as a man called “Uncle G.” He was arrested at his Pennsylvania home about 11:30 a.m.

Doby and Kimberly Crain, 47, are charged with manufacturing juvenile pornography, possessing juvenile pornography, conspiracy to manufacture and distribute juvenile pornography, aggravated possession of juvenile pornography and lewd molestation.

Crain is charged with 23 counts and Doby faces eight counts.

Officials said the two met at Oklahoma Baptist University, where Doby was a professor and Crain was a student. Doby retired as an associate professor of early childhood development at Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania in May 2008, university officials said.

Crain resigned from her job as a third-grade teacher Nov. 28 after parents told police their daughter was invited to her house for a pizza party and told to dress in Christmas-themed underwear and pose with other students for photos and video.

Other parents also told police Crain used her cellphone camera to photograph certain girls posing in the classroom on desks and tables.

She is being held in the Pottawatomie County jail on $1 million bond. Cra

Stockton men’s basketball ends Montclair’s five-game win streak

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP – The Richard Stockton College men’s basketball team shot the ball the same way Wednesday night as it had all season. The Ospreys ran the same plays and executed the same passes.

However, coach Gerry Matthews noticed one major difference.

The Ospreys played with passion.

The result was a 72-69 win over Montclair State in their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener. Stockton snapped Montclair’s five-game winning streak in the process.

“We played with some life,” said Matthews, who is three wins shy of 500 for his career. “It seemed like everyone was into it, and that’s half the battle, getting them to realize they can play a bit.”

But the life Matthews noticed was more evident in the second half than the first. Stockton trailed by as much as 11 points in the first half, and it seemed as though the Red Hawks were going to pull away.

A few tweaks on defense and a bigger effort rebounding, and the Ospreys were right back in the game.

Shooting nearly 60 percent in the second half didn’t hurt either.

“We are one step closer to being a team we know we can be,” said Stockton senior DiAndre Brown, who had 18 points and nine rebounds.

Amid a proliferation of specialized master’s degree programs emerging in the field of management education, the University of Michigan ’s Stephen M.
